Area Police
Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.
A senior representative said the attack made him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
